Terms of Service
Last updated: 31 July 2026
These terms govern your use of the KOKO app. By downloading or using KOKO, you agree to them. Please read the subscription section carefully.
1. The app & your licence
KOKO (“the app”) is a personal journal and goal-tracking tool, provided by Aayush Gelal (“we”, “us”). We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use KOKO on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to the App Store terms and, on Apple devices, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application EULA.
2. Use it responsibly
KOKO records what you write and tracks how often you show up against goals you set yourself. KOKO is a personal aid, not a guarantee, and it is not medical, psychological or therapeutic advice. It does not diagnose or treat any condition and is not a substitute for professional care. If you are struggling with your mental health, please speak to a qualified professional rather than relying on a journal app.
3. Free use & KOKO Journal Pro
KOKO is free to use and offers an optional auto-renewing KOKO Journal Pro subscription. The following terms apply:
- No free trial, and no automatic charge. KOKO does not use a timed trial. Writing in KOKO is free and unlimited for as long as you use the app, whether or not you ever pay. You are charged only if you actively choose a plan.
- What Pro adds. Pro unlocks your statistics, automatic reading of your entries, written month and year summaries, unlimited goals, full history and search. Writing and exporting your own data are always free and are never placed behind Pro.
- Plans & price. Pro is offered on a recurring basis, monthly or yearly. The exact duration and price are shown in the app on the purchase screen, in your local currency, before you confirm. Plans and pricing may change over time, but a change never affects a period you have already paid for.
- Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple App Store (or Google Play) account upon confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the then-current price unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Managing & cancelling. Manage or cancel anytime in your App Store / Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the paid period. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Restore. A previously purchased subscription can be restored from the paywall’s “Restore” option, including after reinstalling.
4. When Look back opens
The Look back screen — your statistics and summaries — stays closed only until you have written a single day, because before that there is nothing to read back. From your first entry onwards it is open. This applies to everyone, including Pro subscribers, and buying Pro does not skip it. A summary drawn from a handful of entries is necessarily thin: it is a reading of what you wrote, not a verdict on it, and the fewer days it has the less it can fairly say.
5. Reading your entries
Where enabled, KOKO sends the text of an entry to our server so a language model can identify which of your goals it mentions and summarise your month or year. That text is not stored — see the Privacy Policy. The model can be wrong; anything it says about your progress is a convenience, not a fact, and you can correct it at any time by tapping a goal. Do not rely on it as a record of what you did — your own words are the record.
6. Refunds
Purchases and subscriptions are sold and billed by the app store, so refunds are handled by Apple (or Google Play), not by us. To request one on the App Store, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. We’re happy to point you in the right direction, so just get in touch.
7. Your content
Anything you write in KOKO is yours. It’s stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud. We don’t claim ownership of it and we can’t access it. You can export all of it at any time, free, even if you never subscribe. You’re responsible for your device and for backing up anything you wish to keep. See the Privacy Policy for details.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the app, reverse engineer it (except where permitted by law), or use it in any unlawful way.
9. Disclaimer & liability
KOKO is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We are not liable for missed goals, lost data, indirect or consequential losses, or any outcome arising from your use of the app or your inability to use it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
10. Changes
We may update these terms as the app evolves; the “last updated” date will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
