Terms of Service

Last updated: 31 July 2026

These terms govern your use of the KOKO app. By downloading or using KOKO, you agree to them. Please read the subscription section carefully.

1. The app & your licence

KOKO (“the app”) is a personal journal and goal-tracking tool, provided by Aayush Gelal (“we”, “us”). We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use KOKO on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to the App Store terms and, on Apple devices, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application EULA.

2. Use it responsibly

KOKO records what you write and tracks how often you show up against goals you set yourself. KOKO is a personal aid, not a guarantee, and it is not medical, psychological or therapeutic advice. It does not diagnose or treat any condition and is not a substitute for professional care. If you are struggling with your mental health, please speak to a qualified professional rather than relying on a journal app.

3. Free use & KOKO Journal Pro

KOKO is free to use and offers an optional auto-renewing KOKO Journal Pro subscription. The following terms apply:

4. When Look back opens

The Look back screen — your statistics and summaries — stays closed only until you have written a single day, because before that there is nothing to read back. From your first entry onwards it is open. This applies to everyone, including Pro subscribers, and buying Pro does not skip it. A summary drawn from a handful of entries is necessarily thin: it is a reading of what you wrote, not a verdict on it, and the fewer days it has the less it can fairly say.

5. Reading your entries

Where enabled, KOKO sends the text of an entry to our server so a language model can identify which of your goals it mentions and summarise your month or year. That text is not stored — see the Privacy Policy. The model can be wrong; anything it says about your progress is a convenience, not a fact, and you can correct it at any time by tapping a goal. Do not rely on it as a record of what you did — your own words are the record.

6. Refunds

Purchases and subscriptions are sold and billed by the app store, so refunds are handled by Apple (or Google Play), not by us. To request one on the App Store, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. We’re happy to point you in the right direction, so just get in touch.

7. Your content

Anything you write in KOKO is yours. It’s stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud. We don’t claim ownership of it and we can’t access it. You can export all of it at any time, free, even if you never subscribe. You’re responsible for your device and for backing up anything you wish to keep. See the Privacy Policy for details.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the app, reverse engineer it (except where permitted by law), or use it in any unlawful way.

9. Disclaimer & liability

KOKO is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We are not liable for missed goals, lost data, indirect or consequential losses, or any outcome arising from your use of the app or your inability to use it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. Changes

We may update these terms as the app evolves; the “last updated” date will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Apple’s Standard EULA also applies. Because KOKO is distributed through the App Store, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (EULA) governs your licence except where these terms add detail.
KOKO is a journal, not medical care. If you are struggling with your mental health, please consult a licensed professional.
